Early Life and Education

Born with the love of technology, Indrajit Sabharwal graduated with an engineering degree from Pune University. Starting his career at ICL UK (now Fujitsu ICIM) in Pune, he drew a meager pay of Rs. 1,500 per month. Exhibiting a spirit for lifelong learning, he earned three part-time management degrees along with his work, providing a strong foundation for his future entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurial Journey

In 1991, Indrajit Sabharwal shifted to Delhi and had experience working with firms such as Comptech and International Data Corporation. Motivated by entrepreneurial spirit, he started SI Consultants in January 1992 with a capital investment of Rs. 10,000. The consultancy picked up pace, acquiring clients like Modi Lufthansa, Xerox, HP Digital, and Sahara Airlines, and earning Rs. 30 lakh in revenue in eight months.

The major milestone occurred on a trip to California when Indrajit Sabharwal encountered an owner of Kingston Technology. The encounter initiated a collaboration, making him Kingston's distributor in India and giving him training in manufacturing memory technology. This served as a catalyst for the establishment of Simmtronics in 1990.

Simmtronics Founding and Growth

Simmtronics started with producing and selling memory modules for customers such as Tulip Telecom, HCL, LG, and Sahara. Simmtronics initially imported memory modules from California as there was no technology available locally. Seeing the increasing demand, Sabharwal set up India's first memory module factory in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, in 2000.

With Indrajit Sabharwal at the helm, Simmtronics diversified its product line to motherboards, graphic cards, monitors, USB drives, and tablets. In 2009, Intel entered into partnership with the company to produce motherboards at Roorkee factory. By 2012, Simmtronics had established 24 personalized tablet models covering multiple market segments, especially the Middle East market. Global growth had subsidiaries at Singapore and Dubai to reach multicultural markets in 14 countries using 21 offices and more than 500 workers.

• Affordable Technology: Simmtronics launched the world's most affordable netbook and evolved the sub-10k PC, bridging technology to a larger base.
• Tablet Manufacturing: In 2012, Simmtronics started the XPad tablet line, launching low-cost but rich-feature devices, which became very popular overseas.
• Integrated Manufacturing: Simmtronics emerged as a trendsetter in integrated manufacturing, manufacturing semiconductor chips, computer parts, smartphone and tablet components, and AI-based systems, indicating Sabharwal's rich experience in scalable and profitable production processes.

These innovations placed Simmtronics as one of the prime players in global semiconductor and IT hardware industries with a turnover reaching Rs. 550 crore in 2012.

Indrajit Sabharwal's work has earned him many awards, including more than 80 international awards. He has been listed in the Top 100 Magazine for his excellence in semiconductors and technology and is frequently called the "Steve Jobs of India" and the "Guru in Semiconductors." His vision and dedication to innovation have earned him a reputation as a much-sought-after consultant and advisor to more than 50 international technology companies, such as Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, and IBM.

In 2025, he was also awarded the 'Most Dynamic Visionary Entrepreneur in Technology' title at Asia's Leading Brands & Leaders Summit & Awards, organised by India's leading branding agency, Brands Impact.
